In the early 80's on the campus of SUNY Potsdam, Robyn and Dana met and began their long journey together. Now, more than thirty years and three kids later, they are redefining what it means to be united in marriage.

In the 90's, Dana was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy, an autoimmune disease that attacks the kidneys. By the early 2010's, the disease had progressed to Stage 5 Renal Failure and with less than 15% Kidney function, a transplant became necessary. Faced with the prospect of a lengthy wait on the donor list and inevitable dialysis, doctors suggested he first try family and friends to see if there was a chance of a viable match there.

By a stroke of what could only be fate, his wife Robyn was a match. After months of tests and countless appointments, it was decided that Robyn would be the donor for Dana's kidney transplant.

An unbelievable stroke of luck facilitated the situation but the decision to go forward was a true demonstration of love and compassion. Robyn and Dana are a constant reminder to us all of what it truly means to be a partner. For the LaVoies, the words "for better and worse" and "in sickness and health" have taken on a literal meaning and their partnership and loyalty serves as a daily example of what it means to be a team.
